Some fun (commissions) appears

by John Rasmussen on March 15, 2009

A few nice items: a commission piece for a ring with a tourmalated quartz as the center stone. a friend of my youngest daughter was looking at the faceted stone inventory and was captured by a 3.3 carat 10mm round stone. Now I am making a ring to go with the stone for her, and repairing a ring shank for her. Also have been commissioned for two birthstone rings (one for three children, and one for seven grandchildren).

I continue to work on several lapis lazuli stones from rough sent to me from Kandahar, Afghanistan by an American pilot stationed there. The lapis is a denim blue with prominent pyrite crystals. The material is absolutely beautiful, and it polishes very well. I played with some a while back and made a couple of pieces (Star Trek Communicators) that are sharply pointed triangles (isosocles).

Well, I am grandson sitting tonight/morning, so that is why I am up at 0430 hours (local time). Colton is growing (3 pounds in the first month). With him here with me, I do not run the lapidary, so I have less time to create. I did finish a small pendant for a swap with an online jewelry group membership. The person who I am swapping to said she liked purple and copper, so amethyst and copper became the materials:
