John,
Decided to check out your blog after reading your post to me at WWJ.
found some similarities in our lives. I am soon to be 62 next June ,am a retired accountant turned wire wrapper, jewelry maker. I work in my small shop at home and love early rock music. It is nice to find another male on WWJ, it appears to be dominated by women ( not the worst thing in the world by the way). Are you a retired geologist turned energency aid worker/jewelry maker ?
Just thought I would pop in and say hello.

Hi,
I found your blog through Wire Jewelry artists forum. I make jewelry myself and I am a gemology student. I am terrified of the upcoming gemology exam in June!
I’m curious about your career as a geologist and a gemologist. When did you get interested in gemstones and stones. How long did you study to be a geologist? Did you study gemology at GIA? Have you found lots of interesting minerals yourself? Did you study jewelry-making somewhere or did you learn by yourself?

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello from the snowy Helsinki, Finland!

Best wishes,

I live in Blue Ridge, Georgia. I am not a artisan, just a fan. I am planning a women’s retreat and was thinking of a craft/memento of wire wrapping a stone for a pendant/charm. Could you make any suggestions.

Hi John,
Just thought I would say hello. Found you through Orchid (what else) where I am a major lurker. Haven’t posted in about 3 years, maybe more, at least, not since I moved back to Toronto from Niagara Falls where I spend the better part of a decade in a black fog.
I noticed the pendant you made for Debbie first and had an aha moment (raised Orthodox, same birthday, have a friend in Georgia who has a lot of trouble finding kosher food).
Anyways, I’ll be following. Gems are the best!
Cheers,
Judy
